Introducing EDI

 EDI Services and the Internet

In the following diagram, we introduce those features of EDI Services that allow trading partners to use the Internet to exchange data even if one of the trading partners is not set up to do EDI.

EDI Services diagram

Trading partner A is set up to do EDI. Trading partner C is not. Trading partner A can make a form available at a certain URL on the Internet by using forms exchange, a feature of EDI Services. Trading partner C can then access that form on the Internet, fill it out, and submit it. The form is then translated to EDI format using in-network translation, another feature of EDI Services.

Trading partner C may also have other data that is not in standard EDI format that needs to be sent to trading partner A. Trading partner C can send this data through another feature of EDI Services, to trading partner A's mailbox on Information Exchange.
