Updates to Information Exchange Version 4 Release 7

Date posted: August 1, 2005

Customers affected: All users of EDI Services Information Exchange and Information Exchange Administration Services

Highlight

This technical bulletin contains information about updates to Information Exchange Version 4 Release 7 planned for implementation on the following dates:

USA/Canada: August 1, 2005
EMEA: September 1, 2005

  Description

Users will be able to connect to Information Exchange Administration Services (IEAS) via the Internet through their Internet service provider using SSL TCP/IP connectivity. Communication between the Internet and the Information Exchange Service is performed using Client X.509 Certificate authenticated SSL for enhanced security.

The websites to access IEAS via the Internet are:

USA/Canada: https://usa.ieas.edisrvcs.com/admin/wies

EMEA: https://eur.ieas.edisrvcs.com/admin/wies

System Requirements

In order to use IEAS via the Internet, you must obtain a certificate for SSL TCP/IP communications. The following website has information on obtaining a certificate and installing it on your system:

https://pki.services.ibm.com

IEAS via the Internet has been tested with and is fully supported when accessed using Internet Explorer versions 6.0 or later. Most other modern browsers will work without problem but have not been tested. The Information Exchange help desk cannot provide support for problems using other browsers.

Navigation Buttons

A unique token is assigned each time you interact with IEAS via the Internet. This token can only be used once and is part of the privacy and security design of the system. However, because of this feature it is not possible to navigate around the application as if it were a typical browse only web site.

Specifically, you cannot use the BACK, FORWARD or REFRESH buttons. Using these buttons will cause your browser to transmit invalid session information. To prevent this from happening, when you log onto IEAS via the Internet a secondary browser window will appear that does not have a navigation bar at the top. Therefore, the BACK, FORWARD and REFRESH buttons will not appear on the page.

Details of operational differences between Internet and 3270 access

The look and feel of the new Internet pages is very much like IEAS 3270 and the functions all perform the same operations. However, there are some slight differences that should be noted, as follows:

  1. The new Internet pages do not support PF key input. At the bottom of each screen are buttons that are used for paging, exiting functions and all other operations that are performed by the PF keys used on IEAS 3270.
  2. If you press the ENTER key, this will perform the IEAS action associated with the 3270 ENTER key. In other words, it is not necessary to click the SUBMIT button on menu screens. Just fill in any appropriate data and press ENTER.
  3. There is a timeout that will return the user to the sign on page if the user remains idle for more than 15 minutes. There is no timeout on IEAS 3270.
  4. The user must always enter their account, user ID and password on the sign on page prior to entering the website's main menu. Some users were not required to enter this information with IEAS via 3270. This is the Information Exchange account ID, user ID and password - the same one used with an Expedite. Some users have/had AT&T Service Manager IDs with different values. AT&T IDs cannot be used to access IEAS
