Updates to Information Exchange Version 4 Release 7

Date posted: March 16, 2003

Customers affected: All users of Information Exchange.

This technical bulletin contains information about updates to Information Exchange Version 4 Release 7 planned for implementation on March 16, 2003 on the USA system.

Summary of updates

The owners of carbon copy relationships are currently defined only by their Information Exchange (IE) account ID and user ID. Many IE users have multiple EDI IDs that are associated with a single IE account ID and user ID. These users want the ability to define owners of carbon copy relationships using both an EDI ID and an IE account ID and user ID. This enhancement enables that ability.

When IE users define carbon copy relationships, they have the option to specify the relationship owner in one of two ways:

  • Use only an IE account ID and user ID
  • Use an IE account ID and user ID, along with an EDI ID or an EDI qualifier and EDI ID

For send-side carbon copy relationships, the IE account ID and user ID define the sender of the message; the EDI qualifier and ID define the sender qualifier and ID from the message header. For receive-side carbon copy relationships, the IE account ID and user ID define the receiver of the message; the EDI qualifier and ID define the receiver qualifier and ID from the message header. Existing carbon copy relationships remain valid with this change.

Users can display a list of relationships by specifying the entire owner information for the relationship. For example, if a user chooses to list relationships by IE account ID and user ID only, then relationships that do not contain an EDI qualifier and ID display in the list. Likewise, if a user specifies an EDI ID or EDI qualifier and ID along with the IE account ID and user ID, then relationships for that entire owner combination display. The account ID and user ID information is always required when listing relationships. If a user wants to list all the relationships for a user, then in either one of the EDI fields, type a “?

Information Exchange considers carbon copy relationships with an EDI ID or EDI qualifier and EDI ID as “more specific” than those relationships without this information. This means if two relationships exist for the same IE user and recipient and both meet the criteria needed to generate a carbon copy, then the relationship that contains the EDI ID or EDI qualifier and EDI ID generates the carbon copy.

These Audit detail panels are updated to include both the receiver’s EDI qualifier and ID, and the sender’s EDI qualifier and ID:

  • Audit Information for the Received/Receivable Message (M3501US and M3502US)
  • Audit Information for the Sent Message (M3601US and M3602US)

Note: This information does not display for non-EDI messages.

The field information is as follows:

  • Audit for an original message
Displays the receiver and sender of the message, as found in the message header.

  • Audit for a carbon copy message
The information displayed, from the message header, may or may not be the actual sender or receiver of the carbon copy message, as follows:

    • Sender’s EDI qualifier and ID
      • Messages that generate as a result of a send-side relationship display the sender’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header. This is the actual sender of the carbon copy.
      • Messages that generate as a result of a receive-side relationship display the sender’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header, which is not the sender of the carbon copy, but is the sender of the original message.

Note: Information Exchange does not replace the sender information in the message header for carbon copy messages.

    • Receiver’s EDI qualifier and ID
      • Messages that generate as a result of a carbon copy relationship that request to have the receiver replaced in the outer header display the EDI qualifier and ID of the carbon copy recipient
      • Messages that generate as a result of a carbon copy relationship that do not request to have the receiver replaced in the outer header display the EDI qualifier and ID of the receiver of the original message

Details of Information Exchange Administration Services Changes (3270)

There are no new or changed Web pages for Information Exchange Administration Services for the Web as a result of this enhancement.

The Information Exchange Administration Services 3270 interface panels listed below are affected by the changes covered in this Technical Bulletin.

Audit Information for the Received/Receivable Message (Panel 1 of 2 - M3501US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. For EDI messages, these fields contain the receiver’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header; the fields display for both original messages and carbon copy messages.
Note: These fields do not display for messages that do not contain EDI data.

Audit Information for the Received/Receivable Message (Panel 2 of 2 - M3502US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. For EDI messages, these fields contain the receiver’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header; these fields display for both original messages and carbon copy messages.

Note: These fields do not display for messages that do not contain EDI data.

Audit Information for the Sent Message (Panel 1 of 2 - M3601US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. For EDI messages, these fields contain the sender’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header; these fields display for both original messages and carbon copy messages.

Note: These fields do not display for messages that do not contain EDI data.

Audit Information for the Sent Message (Panel 2 of 2 - M3602US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. For EDI messages, these fields contain the sender’s EDI qualifier and ID from the message header; these fields display for both original messages and carbon copy messages.

Note: These fields do not display for messages that do not contain EDI data.

List Carbon Copy Relationships (M3810US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields contain the EDI qualifier and ID for the relationships that are listed on the panel. When users list all relationships for a specific user, a new page displays for each EDI qualifier and ID combination that exists in the relationships for that user. (For more information about specifying what you want to display in the list, see information on the Work with Carbon Copy Relationships and Work with Carbon Copy Relationships for EDI Data Types panels).

Work with Carbon Copy Relationships (M3830US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. When choosing to list carbon copy relationships, the following entries are valid for these fields:

  • Blank
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID that do not have an EDI qualifier and ID as part of the relationship. Relationships display for all data types including EDI data types.

  • EDI qualifier and ID
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID that have the specific EDI qualifier and ID as part of the relationship. Because a qualifier is either optional or not permitted for some data types, this field can be blank with only an EDI ID specified. To include a relationship in the list, the relationship must exactly match the information entered in these fields.

  • ?in either field
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID. Relationships that contain an EDI qualifier and ID display prior to those relationships that do not. Each new EDI qualifier and ID combination start on a new page in the list. Relationships for all data types and those for EDI data types that do not have an EDI qualifier and ID display last.

If one or both of these fields are entered and the option to work with carbon copy relationships for EDI data types is selected, the information in these fields carries forward to panel M3840US.

Work with Carbon Copy Relationships for EDI Data Types (M3840US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. When choosing to list carbon copy relationships, the following entries are valid for these fields:

  • Blank
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID that do not have an EDI qualifier and ID as part of the relationship.

  • EDI qualifier and or ID
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID that have the specific EDI qualifier and ID as part of the relationship. Because a qualifier is either optional or not permitted for some data types, this field can be left blank with only an EDI ID specified. To include a relationship in the list, the relationship must exactly match the information entered in these fields.

  • ?in either field
Displays all carbon copy relationships for the specified account ID and user ID. Relationships that contain an EDI qualifier and ID display prior to those that do not. Each new EDI qualifier and ID combination start on a new page in the list. Relationships without an EDI qualifier and ID display last.

Add/Browse/Change a Carbon Copy Relationship (M3820US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only.

Add/Browse/Change EDI Criteria (M3821US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only.

Add/Browse/Change EDI Criteria (M3823US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only.

Add/Browse/Change EDI Criteria (M3824US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only.

Delete a Carbon Copy Relationship (M3850US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only.

Copy a Carbon Copy Relationship (M3860US)

The EDI qualifier and ID fields are added to this panel. These fields display as blank if nothing is entered for them when the relationship is added. The fields are display only. Therefore, the fields must be the same in the relationship being copied from as they are in the relationship being copied to.
