Application and connectivity impacts due to AT&T AFN/GFN withdrawals and required migration from MPN / I1.1, SNA Leased Line/Remote Access Services (dial), and MDNS Gold SLA Reports

Date posted: 8 August 2004

Customers affected:  Users of the Information Exchange (EDI) application or value-added Network Connectivity Services.

Note: Customers who use the Business Exchange Services Internet transfer service (formerly IDDX) or data transformation service, or customers who connect to the Information Exchange service using TCP/IP, are not impacted by these changes and can disregard this notice.

  Description

Changes to your connectivity services are forthcoming that will affect your ability to access Information Exchange or your own applications.

The connectivity services currently in use are subcontracted on your behalf through AT&T. AT&T has officially notified us of "End of Support" and "End of Life" status for the services listed below:

  • MPN / I1.1 (MultiProtocol Network and I1.1 Network)
  • SNA [Services] (dial and leased line)
  • MDNS Gold SLA Reports

AT&T has begun an initiative to support the consolidation of its internal American Frame Network and Global Frame Network (AFN/GFN). Customers using services supported by the AFN/GFN environment (such as MPN or SNA services) will need to migrate to an alternative method of connectivity. AT&T recommends migrating to its MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) backbone network, often referred to as the AT&T Global Network (AGN) or High-Speed Packet Service (HSPS) network.

We are notifying our customers that use AT&T’s Networking technologies about this change to allow you time to plan and manage the migration from your current method of connectivity to one of the recommended replacements. See the Withdrawal of Service timetable below to determine when each service will no longer be available in your geographical region.

As your technology partner, we are committed to ensuring that your connectivity is transitioned in a smooth manner. We have dedicated professionals willing to provide reasonable assistance in the migration process, including:

  • Performing an assessment of your current technology environment
  • Conducting evaluations and recommendations of appropriate technologies
  • Implementing and installing selected replacement technologies

We will provide additional information on the available options and migration paths in later communications. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us.
